LX-15e (Polished Ebony): Digital Piano
A digital piano for people who love acoustic pianos
So you love the timeless elegance of a classic upright piano, but you realise you can do so much more with a digital piano. Usually, it’s one or the other but the LX-15e gives you both. By placing our superior piano technology into a compact upright-styled instrument, the LX-15e is a piano that’s beautiful to behold, beguiling to play, and capable of satisfying both sides of your personality. As a piano for connoisseurs, the LX-15e is all about detail and authenticity. The piano sound, keyboard feel and cabinet construction all combine to create an instrument that’ll make you lose track of time. The LX-15e also works with Roland's free piano apps for Apple iOS devices, so you can use your iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch to make practise productive and fun. Indulge yourself for once.
The digital piano that thinks it’s an acoustic (SuperNATURAL engine)
Why settle for a digital piano that fails to measure up to its acoustic counterpart? A piano should sound like a piano - a wide dynamic range, full of colour and character; a natural, organic decay, and the power to inspire the pianist. It all sounds obvious, until you realise that most digital pianos fall well short. Roland’s SuperNATURAL Piano technology brings the piano sound to life and it’s what makes our pianos special.
A piano sound that you feel (and hear)
Acoustic and digital pianos make sounds in different ways. With an acoustic, it’s all about physical reactions - hammers hit strings, which reverberate through the cabinet to produce the sound. Digital pianos usually have a single pair of speakers, so the sound is less enveloping. Roland’s high-end pianos tackle the problem head on with Acoustic Projection; multiple speakers that are discretely placed to project the piano's various sound elements from their natural positions. These elements are blended in the air space surrounding you, reproducing the sound field of an acoustic piano with stunning accuracy. It’s rather difficult for a digital piano to sound this realistic. But we’ve cracked it.
Concert-class PHA-4 keyboard with ivory and ebony feel keys
Whether you’re a beginner or a master pianist, the keyboard is where it all comes together. If you think about how many times you’ll be pressing those keys, you better make sure that the keyboard is comfortable and doesn’t encourage bad habits. When designing our keyboards, our goal is for you to think you’re playing an acoustic piano keyboard. For example, the keys share the look and feel of real ebony and ivory, and their moisture-absorbing properties mean your fingers won’t slide off. Sure, there’s lots of technology involved underneath, but the end result is refreshingly natural. Play one and you’ll agree.
A piano that adapts to you (not the other way round)
Most digital pianos offer a fixed piano sound, and if you don’t like it, you’re stuck with it. The LX-15e is different though, as the onboard Piano Designer lets you modify string resonance, soundboard behaviour and so on until the piano sound is just as you like it. If you want to go deeper, the new Individual Note Voicing feature lets you adjust the pitch, level, and tonal character independently for all 88 notes. This is also useful for balancing the overall piano sound to suit the acoustic properties of any room or to improve the sound through a particular set of headphones. Using optional USB memory, you can save and recall your favourite settings to instantly change the piano’s sound. Finally, a piano that adapts to you, instead of the other way around.
3D Headphones sound brings practise to life
The beauty of digital pianos is that you can practise in silence without disturbing other people. Great for them, but what about you? You’ll probably be using headphones a lot, but many digital pianos don’t take this into account. With the new Headphones 3D Ambience effect, you’ll enjoy the sound field of an acoustic piano during these private sessions, making it feel as though the sound is emanating from the instrument itself.
Listen, learn and improve
The onboard recorder lets you listen to what you just played, highlighting areas for improvement. Instant recording is a real time saver, essential for helping students improve. It comes in handy for experienced pianists too as you can share your audio recording (via USB) with family, friends, or your piano teacher.
Free Roland apps make piano practice fun
Practise can be boring, but it’s essential if you want to improve. So why not make practise fun by hooking up your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch? With the Piano Partner app you can display the piano’s built-in songs via the iPad’s screen, learn to identify the different notes by ear or wirelessly stream your favourite tunes from your iPhone through the piano’s speaker system.
*Wireless communication requires the Roland WNA1100-RL Wireless USB Adaptor (sold separately) and a wireless LAN access point with an Internet connection.
Authentic Damper Pedal Response
The Progressive Damper Action pedal accurately replicates the damper pedal on an acoustic piano. It features the continuous tactile response that experienced players expect, with light resistance when the pedal is first pressed and more resistance as the damper function begins to take effect. This allows for more intuitive control while playing, along with “half-pedal” techniques for subtle control over sustain and resonance.
Explore an expanded range of dynamic expression
The Dynamic Harmonic feature allows you to adjust the unique overtone characteristics created with fortissimo playing. If you’re a student, this gives you a new palette of tonal colors to explore as the strength of your key touch improves. More experienced players will welcome the deep expressive control too.
Never needs tuning, never stops delivering
If you own a Roland digital piano, you’ll find many advantages over acoustic pianos. It’ll save you money as it doesn’t need tuning, and you get a metronome, recording features, silent practice with headphones, USB connectivity and free apps to help you improve. But it’s worth remembering that our pianos are just like acoustic pianos where it really matters: the sound, feel and playing experience. Just the way it should be.

Roland LX15E-PE Piano reviews
Roland LX15E-PE Piano
The piano is very good, nicely made. Responds well with generally a good clear sound. Some people may find the key resistance a little tougher, especially if there used to the usual digital pianos without escapement. The factory settings were awfull. About 8 notes around C, 2 octaves above middle C were lifeless and lacklustre. I had to go into the note adjuster to correct this as best I could. There is only two adjustement that can be made to individual notes, volume and tone. The volume was already maxed out and the tone variable was a bit limited and not necessarily even. I managed to improve things considerably and save the settings, otherwise it would have been money back please. I am a bit surprised that the factory let the piano go in this condition. I was a bit upset. I'm not overly impressed with the front of the lid (pressed metal) which doubles as a music stand but it is practical. I registered the piano immediately but as yet have still not received my 10 year warranty or IPad mini which was supposedly included in the sale; not quite smiling yet.
Roland LX15E-PE Piano
Absolutely love this piano! It sounds just like a grand. Shut your eyes and you will notice that it feels like a grand too. It's beautiful to look at. I haven't yet tried out all the functions, but am looking forward to hours of fun with that. The best piano I have ever had.
