Our Story
Keysound was founded by Nigel Makepeace nearly 50 years ago. From our humble beginnings, we have always prioritized in-person experiences: listening, playing, and comparing instruments to help you find your perfect match. For 46 years, we operated from our previous premises before moving, in 2022, to our brand-new, larger location in Hinckley. The move allows us to showcase an extensive range of instruments, including the full piano lines of our five major brands—Roland, Yamaha, Kawai, Casio, and Korg.

Meet Our Team
Steve Dove, Managing Director
Steve's passion for music took hold when he was a young boy, attending piano and keyboard lessons with Nigel. Recognizing his talent, Nigel brought him onto the YTS scheme at Keysound—where he joined the team over 40 years ago—and Steve immersed himself in both performance and the evolving technology behind acoustic pianos and digital keyboards. Long before taking the helm, he was already teaching students of all ages, sharing his deep expertise in piano technique and keyboard innovation, while apprenticing in the shop to learn the art of salesmanship and customer care directly from Nigel. In 2017, Steve and his wife Ria stepped up to lead the company, and his unparalleled product knowledge has since influenced new features and designs adopted by major manufacturers. Under his guidance, Keysound continues to innovate and uphold the highest standards of service. Steve enjoys all kinds of music, and his encyclopedic understanding of instruments—from cherished vintage uprights to cutting-edge digital workstations—makes our shop the premier destination for pianists and keyboardists alike.
Ria Dove, Co-Owner
Ria arrived in the UK in 1996 to complete her chemistry degree and stayed on to earn a PhD at De Montfort University in Leicester—during which time she also met Steve. After a stint in cancer research at the University of Leicester, she threw herself into mastering web coding and juggling family life when Steve took over the shop from Nigel.
Since 2017, Ria has co-directed the business alongside Steve, quietly keeping everything on track behind the scenes. She oversees the website, tackles whatever needs doing, and makes sure every customer enjoys the personal, attentive service that defines us.
Brandon (Joined November 16, 2023)
A gifted pianist and accomplished drummer, Brandon studied music at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (Paul McCartney Institute). We first met him during a week-long demo at Highcross Shopping Centre in Leicester, where he impressed us with his playing while working in the mall. Since joining Keysound, Brandon has become a vital member of our team—now offering both technical support and piano/keyboard lessons in-store. Steve continues to mentor Brandon in our full product range, and together they're constantly expanding their knowledge.
Andy (Joined June 2024)
He has been a collage leturer for 23 year. He has played keyboards in bands since 1999, plays bass in 2 bands and can lay guitar and drums. Andy enjoys all kinds of music and whilst havving taken exams in classical iano and theory equally enjoys playing arranger workstation synths
