We think the Roland FP-40 is a very welcome step forward from the hugely popular FP-30X. The combination of Roland's new Piano Reality sound, the excellent PHA-4 weighted keyboard and improved speaker system makes this a particularly strong choice for anyone wanting a good quality piano without moving up to a larger cabinet-style instrument.

What we particularly like about the FP-40 is that Roland hasn't concentrated on technology at the expense of the actual piano-playing experience. The 88-note PHA-4 keyboard feels reassuringly substantial and responsive, while the new sound system gives the piano a fuller and more involving sound when you're playing through its built-in speakers.

Add in Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, USB-C and the new Piano Sphere integration and we think Roland has created a very well-rounded digital piano for beginners, returning players and more experienced pianists. If you liked the FP-30X, the FP-40 is certainly a model we would recommend trying.
